We’ll take a look at the snail farm to try the famous Burgundian snails

If you are a big fan of real Burgundy wines or you want to discover a new French region which is famous over the world with its wines, mustard and snails then you definitely need to go to Burgundy! This region is one of the most prosperous regions in France, the producer of some of the most prestigious and famous wines, along with Bordeaux and Champagne. There are a lot of wine houses where you can taste different sorts of wine and different year of production. In addition, Burgundy is very rich in its history. Ancient churches, beautiful castles, museums-all this will take you straight into the Middle Ages.

In our tour, we will go to the north of Burgundy to taste the famous Burgundian white wine -chablis. This wine was named after the city Chablis. The reason for the popularity of the wine was in its unusual taste. Exceptional limestone soils of Chablis city and a mildly cool climate give the wine a unique note that varies depending on the age of the wine and the vine itself. Golden-green, with a fresh scent, chablis is considered to be one of the best in the world of white wines. Chablis- it is freshness, lightness and unique richness of a flavor bouquet.

There is a 12th-century Saint-Martin church with the chapel of John the Baptist of the 14th century and we will not miss this opportunity to touch its history in Chablis city. It is believed that the monks of the monastery the first planted vineyards in the vicinity of Chablis and began to produce excellent white wine. A few centuries later, magnificent chablis began to be supplied to all the royal courts of Europe, and vineyards began to occupy an area of tens of thousands of hectares.
It should be noted that the wine chablis constitute an excellent gastronomic couple with seafood, rabbit or poultry meat, fish, foie gras, soft cheeses, snails, asparagus, meat appetizers, salads. This is what we will check during lunch after the degustation.

After lunch, it’s time for a walk, and for this we will go to another city Auxerre to admire its characteristic old quarters, cathedrals and look into Saint Germain Abbey, founded in the 5th century, the abbey church is one of the few surviving examples of Carolingian architecture. Here you can see frescoes dating from the year 850, which are among the oldest in France.

If you are so lucky and your tour hits the street season, then by the evening on the way back, we’ll take a look at the snail farm to try the famous Burgundian snails because as the wine the snails are famous for this region. And as they perfectly blend with Burgundy wine, it’s worth a try!

We have received from the tour much more than expected. We have done many wine trips in past but this one was really unforgettable. Our tour guide Vincent was very friendly and informative. He offers us oenology games which helped us learn more about wine smells and pairing. What a wonderful way to get to know and experience the wines of Burgundy.
We had a fantastic wine tasting tour and fabulous lunch.
