Welcome to Burgundy where the most expensive and sophisticated wines with bright aromas are produced. The main varieties cultivated here are: Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Gamaye.

In this tour we will take you to the heart of Burgundy, to the ancient city- Beaune, which is rightfully considered the wine capital of this region and among the main attractions of the city is the Hospices de Beaune or Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune, founded in 1442 by the Chancellor of the Duke of Burgundy, Nicolas Rolin. Hôtel- Dieu is one of the most prestigious historical monuments of France. Its bright Gothic architecture, its multi-colored roofs, which became a visiting card, as well as the famous vineyard make this museum the pearl of Burgundy. The wine company of Hospices owns 60 hectares wine estate of which 50 are devoted to Pinot Noir and the rest to Chardonnay. Entrusted to 22 winemakers handpicked by its manager, this exceptional vineyard accounts for 85% of premiers crus and grands crus sold at charity wine auction which is held since 1859 (the third weekend of November). Winemakers, restaurateurs, connoisseurs and collectors from all over the world gather in the center of Beaune to participate in the auction and purchase some of the most prestigious wines for their own collection. If you are lucky enough to plan your trip during this period, during the tour you will not only see with your own eyes how the auction is going, but also taste the best Burgundian wines right at the Hôtel Dieu de Beaune!

Well, if you do not have the opportunity to come to this period, then this is not a reason to be disappointed because the doors to the Hospice Museum are always open to you.

In our tour we will go to see this miracle of medieval architecture and also visit two tastings in the most prestigious communes where we will try the famous Pinot Noir.

Just imagine this bouquet of aromas of ripe fresh berries: strawberries, raspberries and sweet black cherries sometimes with tones of jam, violet flowers. The first written references to the local Pinot Noir date back to 1375 but this variety was cultivated here hundreds of years before.

In addition to the unique “wine treasures”, the national cuisine is characterized by an abundance of very interesting treats, the recipes of which have remained unchanged for more than one hundred years.

Burgundy, as you have already understood, is one of the great wine regions not only of France, but of the whole world, so it is quite natural that the wine is used here for cooking a wide variety of dishes. There was also wine in local cheese making. In Burgundy, a variety of soft cheeses with a washed crust are made, which are washed in the process of aging by brine based on wine or local grape vodka Mark de Bourgogne.

The most famous of them, undoubtedly, is Epuass, in the 16th century it was started by monks from the Cistercian abbey of Saint-Gregoire, located in the village of Epuass, in the east of Côte-d’Or, hence the name of the cheese. Epuass very quickly gained popularity and it was Napoleon’s favorite cheese. The taste of it you will check during the cheese tasting among which there are many other varieties of French cheeses.

And finally, we will walk along the medieval town of Beaune surrounded by a fortified wall and will stroll through its cobbled streets full of greenery and flowers where there are a lot of wine cellars and wine shops.
